Candolim Beach

Candolim Beach

Candolim is the first beach that can be approached from the capital city of Panaji.

HISTORY

Besides a place of tourist interest, Candolim has historic significance as well. The founder of science of hypnotism, Father Abbe Faria, was born here. Candolim is also the place where the Goans launched first revolt against Portuguese. Predominantly Catholic in nature but all religions are catered for here. Numerous celebrations and festivals take place during the year including Diwali and Holi festivals and are well worth experiencing.

Discovered by hippies, Calangute is said to be the Queen of Beaches in Goa. Tourists frequent the Baga-Calangute-Candolim stretch considered a haven for watersport activities, including parasailing, water-skiing, banana and bump rides. It became the first village to be entirely converted to Christianity in Bardez by the Franciscans during Portuguese rule.
