Glenfalloch Woodland Gardens

Glenfalloch Woodland Gardens

Follow the trails around beautiful Glenfalloch Woodland Garden, which has been has been named a "Garden of Regional Significance" by the New Zealand Garden Trust.

Glenfalloch (which is Gaelic for "hidden valley") is located on Otago Peninsula, just 15 minutes drive from Dunedin's central business district.

Sheltered from the south, the garden enjoys a microclimate that extends the seasons and encourages growth. For more than 120 years, Glenfalloch has been cultivated to showcase rhododendrons, azaleas, magnolias, fuchsias and a profusion of other flower species. Exotic plants are artistically integrated with native ferns and trees. A 1000-year-old matai has pride of place amidst mature oak, walnut, elm, horse chestnut, birch and English beech trees. Panoramic views of the harbour can be enjoyed from many places in the valley.

Walking tracks allow you explore the 30 acre garden at your own pace, or you can take a guided tour. There's a cafe/wine bar on site for snacks and meals. While at Glenfalloch you can also visit the Potter's Cottage, where a resident potter can be seen at work most weekdays.
