Sun Pictures Cinema
Summer evenings in Australia were made for being outdoors. And there's no better way to spend them than rolling out a picnic blanket and watching the latest flick under the stars with your mates. So load up the esky and get set for a long, hot summer of movie magic Australia's best outdoor cinema.
Taking in a movie under the stars in the garden of the Sun Picture Theatre is a must for anyone visiting Broome. Located in Chinatown, the cinema is believed to be the world's oldest, still-operating open-air cinema. Opening its doors in 1916, this unique indoor/outdoor theatre has withstood everything from wartime bombings to king tides and cyclones. The one-time Asian food emporium still retains a touch of golden-era Hollywood with old movie posters and memorabilia on display in its foyer. Current movies are shown every night during the dry season.
